Stop the Presses! CNN Using Wordpress

If you’re keeping up with U.S. politics and the media coverage of the 2008 presidential election, CNN.com is an excellent place to read professional opinion and to be on the bleeding edge of what’s going on. On CNN.com, you can find the Political Ticker with 24/7 updates from CNN’s political team. Interestingly enough, the blog is using Wordpress, a great piece of blogging software (which My Own Skin proudly uses). Even more notable, however, is their great job at theming the blog to seamlessly fit into the overall look of CNN.com.
On his blog, Matthew Mullenweg (founding developer of Wordpress) acknowledges that CNN is, in fact, part of Wordpress’s VIP program which allows them to “serve millions of pageviews with no problems.” He also mentions that CNN has launched dozens of these blogs for divisions such as CNN Money and Fortune.com.

All in all, Mobile9 is a swiss-army knife for mobile phone customization.

Customize.org takes us back all the way to 1998 when it was first founded. Its great collection of skins, themes, and wallpapers makes it one of the most well-known customizing websites on the web. Its creative community is currently 100,000 members strong. The site features a unique color palette tool that helps you keep a consistent color scheme across all of your skinned elements. Seeing as how Super Bowl XLII is drawing near, it seems only appropriate that desktops across America (or the world if you are so inclined) be adorned by wallpapers of your favorite Super Bowl XLII contender. Some wallpapers for both teams can be found below. Be warned, though, that these fun wallpapers may soon turn into a sad reminder that your gambling habits put you in the doghouse.

Personas for Firefox is a recent development from the labs at Mozilla. It’s an extension for Firefox 2 and above that allows easy, simple customization to the rapidly growing browser. Personas focuses on these principles:
- themes today are too hard to find, install and use
- graphic designers should be able to style the browser without having to code
- browsers can be more than just desktop software, they can include online components
- people just want their computer to be a little more fun and personal
